It is with broken hearts that we must share the terrible news that Steve Wardle, the driving force behind the foundation, passed away suddenly on September 20th 2025.
Steve worked with such passion and love over the past 10 years to support communities, sports teams and families with defibrillators. Through the Alex Wardle Foundation, we have supplied countless defibrillators across the UK, raised awareness of cardiac conditions in young people and overarchingly been a true advocate of hope in times of despair. His charitable efforts will long live through his legacy.
Steve was a much loved member of the railway family, having recently celebrated 40 years of service. In its regular newsletter, South Western Railway said Steve will be hugely missed by those who knew him and by OSTC colleagues who worked with him regularly.”
In 2022, the foundation became an official charity partner of South Western Railway, which has since installed defibrillators at more than 150 staffed stations.
Gemma, Steve’s daughter explains: “The feeling of knowing that every day he made a difference and still continues to make a difference. It has been ten years of hard work, but with that hard work came passion and love for the community.”
Steve’s passing leaves not just a irreplacable hole within his family but for everyone who knew him, whether through the foundation, through work or socially, his unique presence will be missed by everyone he met.
